Installing the Night Stand Exhibit

It took two full days to install the Night Stand exhibit at the Women's Museum of California last week, and when you look at all the details in each piece, you can imagine why. Here are some photos from the installation...

Janice Grinsell looks over her piece...

Looking at the reflections...

Checking placement...

Cindy Zimmerman works on her piece...

Placing everything just so...

All tied up...

Discussing it with Kathleen Mitchell...

There were some moments of just staring off into space, waiting for the next person to show up...

Anna Stump photographs her piece created with Dave Ghilarducci.

Ann Olsen adjusts the lighting on her piece...

Dani Dodge's piece during installation...

Linda Litteral considers her piece...

Jeanne Dunn debates the placement of her painting...

Nilly Gill viewed through Stephanie Bedwell's piece, during installation...

Irene Abraham and Cindy Zimmerman discussing artist statements...

The lovely staff at the Women's Museum touch up paint for the install...

Stacie Birky Greene works on sizing photos for her installation...

Kathleen Mitchell's piece before it got all its paperwork installed...

Grace Gray-Adams spent many hours on her Tower of Power, including installation time...

"It took me THIS many days...". Gray-Adams has been documenting her months-long process on Facebook and Instagram...

The piles of details she brought with her...

And her realization that she would have to put them all together now...

The details...

And the discussions...

There's nothing quick or easy about an installation like this.

Nilly Gill found a way to have fun though...

With help, she hung her fabric and paintings and placed everything just so...

The two cots hung out together in the beginning, until they separated for the actual exhibit...

It was quite an endeavor to put the whole exhibit together, with Cindy Zimmerman and Anna Stump shouldering the management, and each artist finding a way to drop off furniture and set up their details.

Stay tuned for a post about the exhibit itself, with photos of the final products...
